Over on Twitter, Nicole Ruiz casually threw out this tongue-in-cheek request for ideas for entertaining a toddler on a flight.

Unusually for the internet, there were plenty of pretty helpful suggestions.
Painters tape… allow them to tear it, make bracelets out of it, put it on stuff, it removes with no residue and going through a whole roll takes time but is relatively cheap

HAND SANITIZER. Sterilize that lil monster multiple times planes are petri dishes of a ton of fun germs for a little one to catch. https://t.co/WIKhSL8Fla

I wrapped dollar store gifts for long plane trips and they got to open one an hour.

There were also responses that were a lot more in keeping with the spirit of the question. Here are a few frankly diabolical favourites.
1.
find more toddlers on the flight to play your slide whistle and cymbals in a band. the other passengers will never forget that ride

Oh any kind of noisemaker will make you super popular with your fellow passengers, particularly late at night when they’re bored. Bring a little drum for yourself to accompany him, too. So cute!

Super crinkly plastic bags
Small, travel drum set
Gum(must smack and pop it)
Soup, so they can slurp it
A very loud Bluetooth speaker so they can play baby shark for 4 or 5 hours straight
A pen, so they can click it for hours on end
