Timothy Olyphant’s daughter is responsible for him accepting a role in that Beyoncé ad for Levi’s.
In “The Denim Cowboy,” released earlier this month, the Justified alum pops up as one of the men wowed by Beyoncé’s skills at the pool table. He ends up losing and having to take down his pants in public.
“It was her idea. Well, it wasn’t her idea,” Olyphant told guest-host Nicole Byer on Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. “They called, and they were very nice. It was a random call, like, ‘Hey, Beyoncé’s doing this thing.'”
Olyphant didn’t specify which of his daughters pressured him into appearing in the ad. He and his wife Alexis Knief share two daughters, Grace, 26, and Vivian, 22, as well as a son, Henry, who’s 24.
“No one was sure what the thing was,” he continued, “but they wanted to know if I was free that weekend. And I — and this not sexy indifference, this is just me — I’m like, ‘Oh, I got ceramics.’ I get this way about everything. It’s a fault.”
Olyphant, who has often played a cowboy on shows like Justified and in movies including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, remembered thinking about his mundane responsibilities like walking the dog.
That’s when his daughter stepped in.
“And my daughter took the phone and said to my agent, she’s like, ‘Darren, he’s doing it, because if he doesn’t, we won’t ever speak to him again.'”
Olyphant went.
“I’m glad she said yes,” Olyphant said, adding that he “had a lovely time” with the singer. “She was lovely. She was so nice.”

Working with the Grammy winner, he said, made him “cooler than I was before.” But he had one complaint after seeing the spot.
“They don’t show my ass that much,” he quipped. “It feels like just an opportunity missed. That’s all I’m saying.”
Byer asked if he’d gotten his ceramics done, to which Olyphant responded, “Ceramics is never done. It’s a lifestyle.”
Olyphant’s latest project is the new series Alien: Earth, which premieres new episodes Tuesdays on Hulu and FX.
