Bombay Fables, the Indian boutique production company helmed by filmmaker-journalist Sejal Shah (“Costao“) and Indian National Film Award-winning writer Bhavesh Mandalia (“OMG: Oh My God!”), has unveiled a slate of five feature films spanning multiple genres from action-comedy to social thriller.
The production house, whose credit includes streaming content like the International Emmy-nominated Netflix film “Serious Men” and JioCinema’s record-breaking “Asur 2,” is now expanding its reach with projects featuring established directors Vishal Furia (“Maa”), Rajesh Mapuskar (“Rdudra”), Shwetabh Varma, and Ashish Aryan (“Kanpuriye”), alongside Shah herself.
The lineup includes “Japani,” an action-comedy to be helmed by Mapuskar and written by Simaab Hashmi and Saurabh Jain. Furia, known for his work in the horror-thriller genre, will direct an untitled comedy-thriller, while Aryan will tackle “Mister One by Two,” a social comedy he’s co-writing with Kunal Kushwah.
Rounding out the slate are an untitled rescue mission drama based on true events, to be directed by Varma from a script by Nikhil Nair, and a thriller that will see Shah return to the director’s chair, also written by Nair.
“We love working with creators who bring discomfort and clarity in equal measure,” Shah said. “As a director, I know how important it is to feel protected creatively; and as a producer, that’s the space we try to create for others. We’re excited about this slate and aim to bring audiences a wide variety of content that truly stands out.”
Bombay Fables has established itself as a formidable force in Indian entertainment with an unparalleled success rate across six major projects. The company’s portfolio includes several Netflix titles including “Saare Jahaan Se Accha,” written by Mandalia, the acclaimed “Serious Men,” the stylized comedy “Decoupled,” the award-winning “Delhi Crime Season 2,” and “Costao” on Zee5, which was written by Mandalia and directed by Shah.
