Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, the Baltimore-based comedian who frequently toured the country, has died. He was 52.
Carroll was killed in a Mississippi shooting on Aug. 20, the Southaven Police Department announced in a Saturday social media post. The statement said the comedian was critically wounded when officers responded to a shooting in the Burton Lane area. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent emergency treatment but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
One man has been arrested in connection with Carroll’s killing and charged with his murder. Investigators did not reveal the identity of the suspect or a motive for the comedian’s killing, but did label the shooting an “isolated” event. The investigation remains ongoing.

The seasoned Baltimore-born entertainer was known for taking his stand-up routine across the country. Earlier this year, he toured with the renowned comedian Katt Williams as part of his Heaven on Tour. Carroll also made the occasional onscreen appearance, showing up in the showcase series Showtime at the Apollo, the special Knockout Kings of Comedy, and the Moesha spinoff The Parkers alongside his friend, Mo’Nique.
In a Facebook post, Carroll’s brothers Jonathan and Andre thanked friends, family and fans for their support and requested that everyone avoid spreading misinformation about the tragedy.
“To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received-thank you,” read the post. “Due to the sensitive nature of Reg’s passing, we are asking all to refrain from publicly sharing any details until we confirm all the facts. If you have posted any details, we respectfully ask that you delete the post… Thank you all for your understanding and loving support.”

Carroll was also remembered by Precious actress Mo’Nique, a friend with whom he frequently collaborated.
“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again,” the Oscar-winning actress said in a now expired Instagram Stories video. “The last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together… that’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”
Club Mobtown Comedy, which frequently hosted Carroll, also remembered the comedian in a social media post: “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
