Consider it another “Golden” achievement: KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s most popular movie of all time.
The hit animated musical shattered records with a whopping 236 million total views on the streamer’s global most popular list, according to the latest stats shared by Netflix on Tuesday. The feat also comes in the wake of a triumphant box office run: Netflix brought the film to select theaters last weekend for a special two-day sing-along event, grossing an estimated $18 million and making it Netflix’s first film to hit No. 1 at the box office.
KPop Demon Hunters, which premiered June 20, centers on K-pop girl group HUNTR/X — comprised of the trio Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) — who moonlight as demon hunters, fending off supernatural threats in between selling out stadiums and topping music charts. Together, they must face their biggest threat yet: a group of demons disguised as the rival boy band Saja Boys, who are intent on stealing HUNTR/X’s fanbase and feasting on their souls.

The film became a runaway hit for Netflix, with songs from the soundtrack quickly climbing music charts. The soundtrack became the highest-debuting soundtrack of 2025 on the Billboard 200 chart, and HUNTR/X’s “Golden” even spent some time on the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s global charts. (While Cho & Co. voice the trio of characters, singers Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami provide vocals for Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, respectively.)
The voice cast also includes Ken Jeong as HUNTR/X’s manager Bobby and Daniel Dae Kim as Dr. Han.

Maggie Kang, who directed the feature with Chris Appelhans, called the film’s massive success “truly surreal.”
“Our goal has always been to create a K-pop group through the movie, but it was a dream, a long shot,” Kang told Entertainment Weekly last month. “We didn’t know if it could work. So to see HUNTR/X and Saja Boys on the charts… I feel so proud. It tells me we really pulled it off. I’m so thankful to the fans for embracing them.”
In a promising update, Kang shared that she already had material in mind for a sequel, which would dive into the group’s backstories.
“We were trying to do a non-origin origin story with a concept that’s brand new to people,” Kang said of the film. “What is it about these girls that brought them into HUNTR/X and made them demon hunters? What is each of their backstory? How did they get chosen? What is that journey like?”
There ultimately wasn’t any room to explore all of that. Should a sequel come into fruition, however, “We can reveal more of that backstory,” Kang said.
