Josh Radnor recently shared the “meta” experience of rewatching How I Met Your Mother for his podcast about the sitcom.
The actor sat down with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Dinner’s on Me podcast, where Radnor discussed creating his own rewatch pod How We Made Your Mother with the sitcom’s co-creator Craig Thomas.
Radnor, 51, played architect and perpetual bachelor Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother. The show is told through the lens of future Ted, played off-screen by Bob Saget, who serves as the omniscient narrator of the series.
The sitcom starts in 2030 with future Ted beginning the long story of how he met the mother of his children, a journey which began in 2005.
The Hunters actor said “it’s wild” that he is almost the same age as the narrator. Ted was born on April 25, 1978, which would make him about 52 years old in 2030.

Radnor said it feels “postmodern” to look back at the show, which mostly takes place in the early 2000s, in the same way that future Ted does.
“Craig and I are nearing the age where the narrator was when he looked back on this pivotal time in his life,” he said. “And the pivotal time in our lives was making this show about this fictional guy’s pivotal time in his life. So we are now looking back on it with these older, wiser eyes and kind of narrating it for ourselves.”
How I Met Your Mother debuted in 2005. It ran for nine seasons until 2014. Radnor and Thomas launched the show’s rewatch podcast earlier this year and recently finished recapping the first season.
