Cubs money line vs. Pirates (+110)
Paul Skenes is a staggering -10000 favorite to win NL Cy Young honors and enters Tuesday sporting a 1.92 ERA. However, the Pirates limited him to only 64 pitches despite the fact that he threw five innings of shutout ball in his last start and are now actively managing his workload. Pittsburgh went on to lose that game in extra innings and is now only 16-14 in Skenes starts. Meanwhile, the Cubs are in comfortable playoff position and will hand the ball to capable rookie Cade Horton, who is 10-4 with a 2.70 ERA over 110 innings. Horton has only given up three earned runs over his last four starts (22 1/3 innings) and that’s a big reason why Chicago wins in 54% of simulations.
Over 8 runs in White Sox vs. Orioles (-105)
Shane Smith has been Chicago’s best starting pitcher this season and Dean Kremer is among Baltimore’s most dependable options. However, neither have been dominant and both of these offenses have shown a little more life in the second half of the season. The White Sox posted a .639 OPS before the all-star break but have a team OPS of .741 since and the Orioles are up more modestly from .702 to .710. The model predicts 9.5 runs on average and that the over hits 58% of the time.
Diamondbacks money line vs. Giants (-125)
Arizona was a seller at the MLB trade deadline but still finds itself in the NL playoff picture and after an 8-1 win in Game 1 against the Giants on Monday, they have a chance to deal a crushing blow to one of the teams they’re vying with for a spot. Eduardo Rodriguez takes the ball for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday and he’s been stellar over his last three starts, allowing only one earned run and 10 hits over 18 1/3 innings. Meanwhile, the Giants appear in line for a bullpen day and that’s a big reason why the model has Arizona winning in 62% of simulations.
