An ABC news station in Sacramento was struck by gunfire on Friday.
“Just after 1:30 p.m. PT, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of Broadway at ABC10,” the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly. “Responding officers observed at least three gunshots into a window of the building. The building was occupied and, fortunately, nobody was injured.”
Police say they do not have any suspect information to provide at this time, and it is not known “if this was random or targeted.”
The statement concludes, “At this time, our detectives have responded out and will be processing this scene and conducting follow up.”

According to a different local news station, CBS News Sacramento, police currently “are classifying the incident as a drive-by shooting as it appears a vehicle drove by the building, fired, then drove away.”
ABC10 is owned by Tegna, which has entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by Nexstar Media Group for $6.2 billion, a transaction which requires the approval of the FCC. Nexstar made headlines this week after it announced that its ABC affiliates would be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live in the wake of Kimmel’s comments about the death of Charlie Kirk, which then prompted ABC to announce that it is pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live from the air indefinitely.
Just hours before ABC’s announcement, FCC chair Brendan Carr encouraged local broadcasters to preempt Kimmel’s show and called for ABC’s parent company, Disney, to step in to the issue, claiming that the late-night host’s comments “appears to be some of the sickest conduct possible” during an interview with The Benny Show.

Tegna released the following statement on the shooting, per ABC7: “We can confirm that shots were fired into our station at KXTV earlier today. While details are still limited, importantly, all of our employees are safe and unharmed. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional measures to ensure the continued safety of our employees.”
An Entertainment Weekly request for comment was not immediately returned by the company on Friday.
