Any true ’90s Saturday Night Live fan was knowingly bopping their head as Hilaria Baldwin hit the dance floor on Dancing With the Stars‘ One-Hit Wonders Night on Tuesday.
The yoga instructor and reality star performed a tango with partner Gleb Savchenko to Haddaway’s “What Is Love” — a song that peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard chart in 1993 before enjoying a resurgence a few years later thanks to the legendary NBC sketch show. And it even has a special connection to Hilaria’s husband, Alec Baldwin, a mainstay on SNL for decades.
For SNL viewers, “What Is Love” will always be intrinsically linked to a series of “Roxbury Guys” sketches, featuring Will Ferrell and former DWTS contestant Chris Kattan as Steve and Doug Butabi, two suit-clad brothers who love to hit the club and (unsuccessfully) hit on women on the dance floor. The guys’ trademark move is bopping their heads in unison as the Haddaway hit plays throughout the sketch.

The popular characters recurred nine times on SNL between 1996-1998, and even got their own spinoff movie with 1998’s A Night at the Roxbury. One of those sketches occurred on Feb. 22, 1997, in which the energetic clubgoers were joined by the episode’s host: Alec Baldwin.
Alec, who has hosted SNL more times than anyone, began his 17-time hosting streak back in 1990. For his seventh stint in 1997, the Glengarry Glen Ross star performed a meta monologue that showed him going through hair and makeup to play a third Roxbury guy — and later joining Ferrell and Kattan for the actual sketch.

Hilaria and Gleb earned score of 7 from each judge, or as Derek Hough explained, “Seven kids, seven points.”
That gave them a total of 21 for the night, and a combined score of 35 with their premiere score last week.
Alec joined Hilaria on the reality competition’s premiere last week, crashing her rehearsal to take a twirl with his wife’s dance partner himself.
“This was her life until she got injured, so she’s just going to give it everything she has. And I’m proud of her, very proud of her,” Alec said, referring to Hilaria breaking her hip in 2009.

Back in 2019, Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal also played homage to the classic SNL characters by dressing as the Butabi brothers to walk the red carpet at the Spider-Man: Far From Home premiere.
Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, and streams the next day on Hulu.
