Brazil employs more domestic workers than any other country in the world, with almost 6 million in total, according to official figures. Some 91 percent of these nannies, cooks and cleaners are women and 67 percent are Black. But the majority of these women – victims of modern slavery – are paid by the day and have no employment contract or social security cover. Some of them end up being trafficked into prostitution.
