Before contestants have a chance to buy a vowel, Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest make sure they do this one thing right before every episode of “Wheel of Fortune.”
In September 2024, White and Seacrest began working together after the show’s longtime host, Pat Sajak, retired from the iconic game show in June 2023.
In a Friday interview with People, White opened up about their two-decade-long friendship — and explained why the transition to a new host was “flawless.”
“I’ve known Ryan for over 20 years, but I’ve never worked with him until last year,” White said. “He has great energy, and he wants to do a great job. I mean, when he first started, he goes, ‘Look, I can never replace Pat Sajak. I’m just going to go in and do the best job I can.’ And that’s what he’s done.”
Thanks to their bond, the two have created a lighthearted backstage ritual before each taping.
“Before we go out, I turn to him and say, ‘Do I have lipstick on my teeth?’” she said, adding that Seacrest is consistently honest with her — and always has her best interests at heart.
During a March interview with the “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” White revealed how many days per year she actually works on the hit game show.

“We film about 34 days a year,” she revealed. “That’s it.”
“But… six shows a day,” she continued.
