A Hamas statement on Friday said it was willing to release the hostages and hand over power to other Palestinians, but that other aspects of Trump’s plan require further consultations among Palestinians. “The response of Hamas brought hope and light to the desperate people here,” said Shrouq al-Aila, an independent journalist in the Gaza Strip. “I heard cheers and celebrations of people coming out of their makeshift tents,” she said.
