Get ready for a return of Apple’s October gadget-a-thon. All the rumors are coalescing around a few key updates to well-worn products. This month’s big gadget dump may not provide the kind of life-changing upgrades iPad and Mac fans were hoping for. Instead, it could be the products you’ve thought about the least that grab most of the attention.
Apple’s recent penchant for October launches, such as 2023’s “Scary Fast” MacBook Pro with M3 chip debut, won’t constrain itself to laptops this year. Notorious Apple leaker Mark Gurman from Bloomberg wrote on X that the iPad Pro with M4 chip—the one with a big, beautiful tandem OLED display—has been running low on stock at Apple retail stores. This is a fairly consistent metric to determine when Apple is phasing out older product models in the run-up to new products. Online shipments have also been delayed until the week following Oct. 21, according to Gurman. This builds up the expectation for a new iPad Pro with M5 chip. Compared to the big jump on 2024’s top-end iPad model, the next model may be a mere specs bump, like this year’s iPad Air with M3 chip. This would be the first Apple tablet to launch with iPadOS 26 and all the amenities of free tiling windows. The timing indicates we could see new products within the next two weeks.
What about MacBooks?
Despite initial rumors that the MacBook Pro would slip into 2026, Apple could be gearing up for a limited launch this time around. Previous rumors indicated Apple could launch the base MacBook Pro with M5 chip in 2025, but save an M5 Pro and M5 Max model for 2026. There are a few reasons Apple could be making this play. The regular M5 may be a more standard chip compared to past Apple silicon launches. Apple has been making a big push for gaming on Mac, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 demanding more graphics processing. An M5 Pro and M5 Max chip could feature a new architecture that could boost the more-expensive MacBook’s GPU power. In reality, most MacBook fans would be more interested if Apple finally upgrades to OLED and removes that ugly notch around the webcam.
There have been fewer hints of the supposed low-end, cheaper MacBook Air with the proposed iPhone chip. That notebook would be Apple’s first entry into a more affordable market. However, an M5 chip may be the star of the show for a slew of new products. While Apple has reportedly abandoned plans for a truly next-gen Vision Pro headset, it could launch a minor revision with an M5 chip, according to the latest rumors. Gurman reported this past weekend that a Vision Pro with an M5 chip was “imminent.” We don’t expect the new version to weigh any less, though Apple may have devised a better strap system to keep the headset from sagging onto the fragile bridge of your nose.
Tell me that’s not all

Apple may be reaching into the bottom of the Halloween candy bowl and pulling out all the leftover treats it didn’t offer earlier in the year. Even more rumors suggest Apple will unveil a new version of AirTags that could boost range and make it more difficult to tamper with. Apple TV fans may be more excited by a new Apple TV 4K set-top box. Rumors of the box’s first upgrade since 2022 may include the more recent A17 Pro chip and its most recent N1 wireless chip. Apple may try to shove Apple Intelligence features into its new model. We’ve already seen what that’s like with Google’s TV Streamer and TCL’s most recent mini LED television with Gemini built in. To sum it up, you really don’t need AI on your TV.
Apple could also launch new smart home products to help it compete with Google and Amazon’s latest devices. The HomePod mini may receive its first upgrade in five years, with an enhanced wireless chip and—you guessed it—AI features. Gurman previously hinted at a new smart home speaker with a new chip and slightly enhanced Siri. I’m personally still waiting for that Apple-branded Pixar lamp to make its debut and show us something truly novel in the smart home space.
