- A Disney World guest has died at the Contemporary Resort on the Florida property.
- In a statement to EW, a local police representative says the death is an “apparent suicide.”
- “The person was NOT struck by the monorail,” the statement confirms.
UPDATE: After Entertainment Weekly learned Wednesday that a person had been found dead due to an “apparent suicide” at Disney World’s Contemporary Resort hotel, a representative for Orlando’s Orange County Medical Examiner identified the deceased as Summer Equitz.
“The manner of death has been ruled a suicide,” the representative wrote in a Thursday morning email, before listing the cause of death, which occurred Tuesday, as “multiple blunt impact injuries.”
EARLIER: A guest died Tuesday at Disney World near the Contemporary Resort hotel, just outside the Florida property’s Magic Kingdom park, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
After a body was found on site, a representative for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office tells EW that the deceased’s cause of death was incorrectly reported by many on social media.
“This is an apparent suicide,” the representative says, adding that, contrary to other reports, the Disney guest “was NOT struck by the monorail, so that is erroneous information.”

When asked for further details after footage shared online appeared to show officials setting up a white tent on a Contemporary Resort balcony, in addition to reports that the body was found on the track of the monorail, the representative added, “We don’t release additional information in cases of suicide.”
EW has reached out to Disney World representatives for more information.
A similar incident occurred in 2016, when a guest reportedly jumped from one of the resort’s ledges.
Opened in 1971 alongside the Disney World property overall, the Contemporary Resort is a unique architectural structure, with an A-frame design that sees the monorail track running directly through the building near the lower floor.
On the interior of the upper floors, many resort pathways face inward toward the lobby below, which also contains gift shops and two restaurants, Chef Mickey’s and the Contempo Café.
Earlier in October, a Disneyland guest died after riding the Haunted Mansion attraction, EW confirmed, with the guest — a woman in her 60s — being transported to a local hospital after riding.

Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department told EW at the time that “Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived,” though the woman was “later pronounced deceased.” A cause of death has yet to be announced.
