A shooting near Howard University has left at least four people shot, police in Washington DC said.
The shooting happened as thousands descended on the campus for homecoming celebrations.
Police responded to shots being fired at 8.23pm on the 600 block of Howard Place, near the university’s Yard and the School of Architecture building.
Police say the shooting left one person in critical condition and one person in serious condition. Police have not confirmed the number of injuries, nor whether a suspect or suspects were apprehended.
DC traffic police confirmed the shooting investigation in a social media post detailing the road closures. Police confirmed in a separate social media post that the scene was secure.
Homecoming celebrations began last weekend and continue through Sunday. Friday evening’s events included a Homecoming Kick Off and a Greek Step Show, and several events are scheduled for Saturday.
