FOXBOROUGH — Mike Vrabel made quite the analogy on Wednesday when speaking to the media after the New England Patriots didn’t make any moves at the trade deadline.
Specifically, the head coach was asked how close the team came to making any deals.
“Deals are like being pregnant. You either are, or you aren’t,” Vrabel responded. “It’s either a deal or it’s not? So I don’t know how close you can be.”
While the Patriots have a 7-2 record, sitting in first place in the AFC East, there were still some holes on the roster that many thought the team would address. However, it does seem that New England tried to get some deals done, but in the end, it just wasn’t meant to be.
“I know that everyone worked hard, that we investigated, looked in, made phone calls and what personnel departments do,” Vrabel explained. “And in the end, we decided that this was what we were going to do and decided to move forward with our preparation.”
And with that, all the focus is on the next game. There is no worry about playoffs as it’s only Week 10.
“For us to sit here, think that anything is wide open and talk about playoffs, we’re focusing on our 10th game in a row. That’s what we’re focused on, is how do we get prepared on Wednesday,” Vrabel said. “How do we get our bodies back? How do we get mentally prepared, physically prepared to go on the road to a place that is hard to play? That’s where our focus is.
“It’s not trying to predict the future of saying, ‘Well, it’s wide open.’ We’re just going to keep focusing on what’s in front of us, and that’s what those conversations are about.”
