Peru’s Congress on Thursday declared Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum persona non grata, deepening a diplomatic crisis triggered by Mexico’s decision to grant asylum to former Peruvian Prime Minister Betssy Chavez. The move follows Peru’s break in diplomatic ties with Mexico and ongoing tensions over the case of the ex-official sheltered at Mexico’s embassy in Lima.
