The US Supreme Court has issued an emergency order temporarily permitting the Trump administration to withhold billions of dollars in funding for food assistance relied on by millions of low-income Americans. The decision follows a White House appeal after a lower court had ordered that payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, be fully distributed to recipients by Friday.
