Pedro Pascal got by with a little help from his friends.
The Last of Us star tells Entertainment Weekly that he spoke “a lot” to former Fantastic Four stars Chris Evans and Miles Teller before taking on the role of Reed Richards, a.k.a. the stretchy hero Mister Fantastic, for his Marvel debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“I’m friends with Miles, I’m friends with Chris, and yeah, we talked about it,” he said with a laugh. “A lot.”

Pascal recently starred in The Materialists alongside Evans, who formerly played Johnny Storm/the Human Torch in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its sequel, 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Evans also reprised the role in a surprise twist for last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Meanwhile, Teller starred as Reed Richards in 2015’s Fantastic Four.
“I love that there can be previous authorship to things, and absorbing information and resources from wherever I can, whether it be decades-long comics that have changed a number of times over time, other movies, other performances,” Pascal added. “[They] all are pieces to the puzzle to me, and I like as much information as I gather.”
Pascal recently met up with another previous Fantastic Four star, Jessica Alba, earlier this month. The two actors posed for a photo together after attending a performance of the Rachel Zegler-led Evita in London’s West End.

Alba starred as Reed’s wife, Sue Storm, a.k.a. the Invisible Woman, alongside Evans, Ioan Gruffudd as Reed, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/the Thing, in two movies from the early 2000s.
“I hadn’t seen Jessica Alba in 25 years,” Pascal said of their recent reunion. “I had read with her [and] I had had a chemistry read with her — I didn’t get the part — for a pilot called Dark Angel, and I hadn’t seen her or run into her, I don’t know how, in 25 years. And I just ran into her then.”
The timing couldn’t have been more fantastic. Also starring Vanessa Kirby (as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/the Thing), The Fantastic Four: First Steps soars into theaters July 25.
