US President Donald Trump on Wednesday punished Brazil for its prosecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro for his alleged coup attempt, increasing tariffs on the Latin American country to 50 percent and sanctioning the judged in charge of Bolsonaro’s case, in a move current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva denounced as an infringement on Brazil’s sovereignty.
