Alicia Silverstone wants to do right with the upcoming “Clueless” reboot.
Back in April, it was announced that Silverstone would reprise her role of Cher Horowitz in a “Clueless” sequel series at Peacock. She recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the project.
“I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she’s evolved,” Silverstone said. “This is 2025, she’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.”
Silverstone added she initially “never thought” of doing a “Clueless” reboot because she wanted to keep the legacy of the original untarnished. But she now feels confident the sequel series will “honor” the source material.
“It’s very early stages,” she said. “I’m obviously excited. I never thought that, that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn’t wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much. We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.”
Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss are set to write and executive produce the series. Silverstone will executive produce as well as star. Original “Clueless” writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence also serve as executive producers. CBS Studios will produce in association with Universal Television.
“Clueless,” loosely based on the Jane Austen novel “Emma,” originally debuted in 1995. Silverstone starred in the film alongside Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer and Dan Hedaya.
