Amazon is planning a massive expansion of its fresh grocery delivery business, and it’s coming soon.
Right now, subscribers in more than 1,000 cities can take advantage of same-day fresh grocery delivery. By the end of this year, Amazon plans to offer the service in more than 2,300 cities. Additional locations are planned for 2026.
The move comes as Amazon faces strong competition from other services like Walmart+ and Instacart.

In a post about the expansion, Amazon explains that fresh grocery items, including produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods, can be delivered the same day for Prime members (who pay $14.99 per month or $139 per year). As long as an order is over $25, there’s no delivery charge. If your order is under $25, you can still have it delivered the same day for $2.99. For non-Prime members, delivery is $12.99 regardless of order size.
Amazon says any temperature-sensitive products will arrive in insulated bags, the same ones used for Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market deliveries.
The company already offers grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and several local grocery and specialty retailers. Most of those deliveries, though, have separate checkout processes and come with a $9.99 fee. This service will handle orders through Amazon’s same-day logistics, which are already in place.
You can check Amazon’s same-day store to see what’s available for delivery in your area.

Amazon’s push into the grocery game is just the latest example of the retail giant broadening its horizons. It started offering used cars last week, and it already offers prescriptions, telehealth visits, and more. While Amazon does have competition in the grocery delivery space, its existing network and massive customer base almost certainly give it a leg up against others.
