It wasn’t too long ago that Bad Bunny, who costars in Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler, was just hoping to catch a glimpse of the comedian. He now admits he got emotional when he finally did.
The two had been exchanging texts, the Grammy-winning singer said Tuesday, when the two made a joint appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martinez Ocasio, was on the lookout for the Saturday Night Live alum every time he went to a Los Angeles Lakers game.
“I would say we met through text message,” Bad Bunny said. “The first time that I saw him, it was at a Lakers game.”
“That’s right!” Sandler recalled. “He was on the other side, sitting way over there.”
Sandler had noticed the musician because he was with one of his daughters — Sandler is dad to teenagers Sunny and Sadie — who recognized the artist and began hitting her dad.
“And then we locked eyes,” Sandler said, “and then I gave you some love from across the court.”
“When he [made] the eye contact with me, I was like, ‘Bro!” he continued. “I cried.”
He tried to hold in his tears, telling himself, “I can’t cry courtside,” but it didn’t stop the waterworks. “He knows who I am!”
The singer then admitted that he might have been extra emotional in the moment because he was “a little tipsy.”

He attended the game with his best friend and remembers saying dramatically, while trying to play it cool, “He’s here.”
“Because I was waiting for that moment!” Bad Bunny said. “I’d been to a lot of Lakers games. I saw every celebrity, but never Adam Sandler.”

The cast of the new comedy, a sequel to the 1996 golf movie, also features professional athletes like Travis Kelce.
”I don’t know how it happened,” Sandler told ABC News of the movie’s ability to draw big names. “We wrote ’em stuff, everybody was kind enough to come. And everybody in it did a great job. Every day, someone cool would show up, and we’d hang out.”
Happy Gilmore 2 arrives on Netflix on Friday, July 25.
