ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A Michigan football legacy, Blake Frazier has had high expectations, and he’s living up to them despite being thrust into action in the midseason.
With starting left tackle Evan Link going out with an injury in the Washington game, Frazier came in and has worked his way up as a starter. Now that he has two games under his belt as the starting left tackle, how does he feel like he’s done?
“Yeah, I feel like I’m playing well,” Frazier said. “Obviously things to work on, but I’ve been pleased with myself. But I also understand that there’s a lot more that I can work on. And I think my ceiling’s pretty high as far as how much I can improve. So, just working on getting better week to week.”
A former four-star, Frazier didn’t dress for much of his freshman campaign in 2024, struggling with injuries himself all year. But in 2025, he at least got some early time on task, often coming in as the fifth lineman, getting his feet wet before he ultimately heard his number called.
Given that he’s relatively new to the game, everything should feel different, but the only thing that’s been a surprise to Frazier (if you can call it that) is the speed of the game. He expected it, however, and thus, he’s acclimated quickly to how much faster college football is compared to when he last played football, as a high school starter.
“I don’t know if there’s really been a surprise,” Frazier said. “I would say that I think my preparation has done me well. I guess I expected that the games would move a little bit faster than I feel like they are. But I think that’s also a credit to the guys that I’m playing with. Everybody knows what they’re doing. And we’re all really keyed into the game plan. So, I think that makes everything a little bit slower.”
Michigan is coming off the bye week and will travel to Chicago on Saturday to face Northwestern at Wrigley Field. As head coach Sherrone Moore calls the final three-game stretch of the regular season, it’s the third quarter. And with that, Frazier says there were a couple of points of emphasis leading into the Week 12 matchup with the Wildcats.
“Communication was a big one. And taking practice to the game,” Frazier said. “There were a couple times that we saw something in practice and maybe didn’t execute it as well in the game as we would have liked. So, that’s been an emphasis for us this week, is making sure that we’re all keyed into what we’re supposed to be doing and every look that we’re getting.”
