Lock your doors because Netflix’s latest serial killer is on the loose.
Charlie Hunnam stars as Ed Gein, a murderer known as “The Butcher of Plainfield” and “The Plainfield Ghoul,” in the third season of Netflix’s anthology series “Monster.” The show premieres on Oct. 3.
“The Ed Gein Story” logline reads: “Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From “Psycho “to “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” to “The Silence of the Lambs,” Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror.”
In addition to Hunnam, the cast includes Laurie Metcalf as his mother Augusta Gein, Tom Hollander as film legend Alfred Hitchcock, Olivia Williams as Hitchcock’s wife and screenwriter Alma Reville, Addison Rae as missing teen Evelyn Hartley, Vicky Krieps, Lesley Manville, Charlie Hall, Suzanna Son and more.
Co-created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, “Monster” previously profiled Jeffrey Dahmer and Erik and Lyle Menendez in the first two seasons, to great success. The show is executive produced by Murphy, Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin and Hunnam. In addition to writing the season, Brennan directed with Winkler.
