Men? Gross!
This was the takeaway of the most recent Are You a Charlotte?, Kristin Davis’ wildly entertaining Sex and the City rewatch podcast.
Her guest this week was Christie Brinkley, the model and actress with four ex-husbands and a new memoir, Uptown Girl, currently on the market. The two women talked about the second season SATC episode “The Man, the Myth, the Viagra,” in which Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha dates a successful man in his 70s.

Reflecting on the storyline, as well as recent conversations with Candace Bushnell, whose newspaper column inspired the show, Davis made a general statement that “the men who are that age don’t want women [their age]. I mean, what are we gonna do?”
This led Brinkley, 71, to reveal that even though she isn’t “on any kind of dating app, my daughter, [model] Sailor [Brinkley Cook], she’s so mischievous — she created [a listing]. She wanted to see what kind of guys [would reach out], and she put [it up for] an hour or something. She put me up there with a different name.”
This social experiment led to a quick conclusion.
“She said, ‘Mom, you’re right not to go on it because the same guys that, you know, said yes to me…'”
Before Brinkley could finish her sentence, listeners were treated to a category five GASP from Davis.
Brinkley then went on: “‘[they] were saying yes to you.'”

Davis had much to say about this.
“That is fascinating. I’m kinda scared and awed by the whole situation that has evolved in the dating world,” she shared. “And I understand it, but I would like to understand it better. But not for me, just in general.”
She then declared, “I have incredibly beautiful friends who are on there and they’re over 50. And these are incredible women who own their own houses and have these incredible careers and travel the world! Like, to me, all the things that I ever wanted to be, you know? Their kids are grown, you know, they have accomplished so much. Yet the men their age are absolutely not looking for…”
To which Brinkley merely said, “Yeah.”
Davis then cried out to the heavens, “How can we still be at this place?”
Brinkley replied, “I find that what men like to do is to be able to find somebody that’s very, oh, that’ll be impressed by every little thing that they do. Like [affects little girl voice], ‘Oh, really? Oh, you’re taking me to that restaurant?'”

Davis laughed at Brinkley’s impersonation, then both women sighed and went back to discussing Sex and the City.
