The millennial internet’s vampire and werewolf boyfriends are back to celebrate the young adult romantasy’s cinematic debut 15 years ago. The films propelled current Batman Robert Pattinson into superstardom alongside indie darling Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
Lionsgate had already announced a re-release for The Twilight Saga in theaters; to go with that, there’s now an internet streaming event, starting September 7.
First up is the YouTube marathon for the chronically online fan, where the five movies will be broadcast on the franchise’s official channel, and it will be totally free. So get your Team Edward or Team Jacob jammies together for a slumber party or Zoom watch-along with your besties. The five movies will play on a loop starting at 12 p.m. PT this Sunday through September 14 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
If seeing it in a Bella Swan state of bed rotting isn’t your jam, the films will also make their return to the big screen in October. Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment will be rereleasing the films to mark the 20th anniversary of Stephenie Meyer’s first Twilight novel. No matter where you run, spider-monkey, the Cullens will find you on every possible platform.
There’s so much sparkly vamp and werewolf pack content on the recently relaunched social media pages run by Lionsgate. You can see why; combined, the five films—Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2—earned more than $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office. And it’s the craze that just won’t die, with Lionsgate’s TV adaptation of Midnight Sun based on the book by Meyer in the works at Netflix.
