A young band called the Analog Dogs drive from Kansas to California after being tricked into thinking they’ve won the chance to open for their heroes
Three friends embark on a wild road trip under the impression that they’ve landed a once-in-a-lifetime chance to open for Green Day in the first teaser for New Years Rev.
Directed by Lee Kirk, the new comedy centers around a young group called the Analog Dogs, a trio played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust. Early on in the film, the group is tricked into thinking they’ve earned an opening slot for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert, so they set out to drive from Kansas to California to meet their heroes.
The new teaser opens in classic Green Day fashion, with the members of Analog Dogs sitting on a couch and doing bong rips in the face of their first major obstacle: They have no way of getting to the show. “We’re never gonna forget the day we almost opened up for Green Day,” one says, prompting the other to reply with an exhale of smoke: “Man, we’re not almost opening… We’re taking Wayne’s car.”
The rest of the clip features a montage of road trip antics and coming-of-age escapades, all of it culminating at a Green Day show. Though it’s still not totally clear if the Analog Dogs will get to take the stage or not.
New Years Rev is loosely based on Green Day’s early days living out of a tour van. The band’s music will, of course, feature prominently in the film, with the new trailer set mostly to their American Idiot track, “Holiday.”
The film also boasts a strong supporting cast, with appearances slated from Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, McKenna Grace, Keen Ruffalo, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Sean Gunn. New Year’s Rev will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 12.
