Stars may have largely opted for neutrals at this year’s Emmys but color did make its way onto the carpet by way of the lip. Actors such as Gwendoline Christie (“Severence), Kathy Bates (“Matlock), Meg Stalter (“Hacks”) and Jen Tullock (“Severance”) were just a few of the ceremony’s attendees to pair subdued ensembles with a bold, scarlet lip.

Christie, for one, is no stranger to a crimson pout. The “Severance” actor, nominated for her guest role in the Apple TV+ show’s second season, wore a sparkling two-piece suit in a powder pink by Tom Ford. She put her hair in a sleek updo, keeping her makeup minimal aside from a thin cat-eye liner and a deep red lipstick.

It’s only fitting that Bates would step out in full glamour for the 2025 Emmys.  At 77, the “Matlock” star heads into this year’s ceremony as the oldest woman nominated in the lead drama actress category. She met the moment with a stunning ensemble, made up of a full-length satin dress in a rich espresso brown and a striking red lip.

Tullock, meanwhile, made a quietly striking style statement in a piece from the Elisabetta Franchi Fall/Winter 2025 ready-to-wear collection. She added a pop to the all-black look with a bright lip and smoky eyes.

Finally, Stalter took a radically different route at the Emmys this year, rejecting the gown tradition for jeans, a white T-shirt, black flats and a strong political message. Her outfit was intentionally casual — straight-leg blue jeans paired with a plain white tee. The headlining piece, however, was her handbag bearing the slogan “Cease Fire!” as a statement in support of Palestine. Despite the laidback look, she tapped into glamour with a red lip — and matching red nails, to boot.
