Millions of Indians celebrated Diwali on October 20, 2025, as the country marked the Hindu festival symbolising the victory of light over darkness. People ate festive meals, exchanged gifts and set off colourful fireworks across the country. But in a country that already has very high levels of air pollution, the fireworks can add to the toxic smog.
