Brutal winds and torrential rain battered Jamaica on Monday as Hurricane Melissa, a slow-moving Category 5 storm, neared the island. Prime Minister Andrew Holness warned it could be Jamaica’s most destructive storm on record. Melissa has already killed at least four people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
