The duo reunited for a new covers EP, Making Good Time, out Sept. 12th
Ten years after Sam Beam of Iron and Wine and Band of Horses‘ Ben Bridwell delivered Sing Into My Mouth, the duo is back for another round of covers.
Their latest EP, Making Good Time, is slated for release on Sept. 12 and leading the offering is a rendition of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s hit GNX track “Luther.” The hit song was penned by Lamar, SZA, Ink, and Sam Dew, and spent 13 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 at Number One.
On Instagram, the pair shared a joint post announcing the cover and wrote in the caption: “10 years on from the first record of covers we did together, we’re beside ourselves to pick it back up with a few new songs.”
Beam and Bridwell recorded Making Good Time earlier this year in North Carolina with Brad Cook and the house band; other covers on the project include songs by U2, boygenius, Foreigner, and Roxy Music. “I chose to focus on ‘Luther’ after kinda hitting a wall wondering which songs would be best to contribute,” Bridwell said in a press release, per Pitchfork. “After much hand-wringing, it hit me, ‘Why not just do my favorite song?’ I’d been playing the then–newly released GNX album on repeat and that song in particular with my girls to the point of exhaustion.”
Iron and Wine and Band of Horses are also headed on a co-headlining tour of the United States this September and October, with stops in Redmond, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angelees, Las Vegas, and Anaheim.
