Jimmy Kimmel, a longtime outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, revealed that he has obtained Italian citizenship amid Trump’s return to the White House.
The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently appeared on The Sarah Silverman Podcast, where he and Sarah Silverman chatted about the current state of politics in the U.S. and how some celebrities — such as Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell — even left America ahead of Trump’s second term.
“A lot of people I know are thinking about where they can get citizenship,” Silverman said, as Kimmel admitted, “I did get Italian citizenship. I do have that.”
He continued, “What’s going on is… as bad as you thought it was going to be, it’s so much worse. It’s unbelievable. Like, I think it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be.”
Trump and Kimmel have been longtime foes, with each taking jabs at the other over the years. The comedian regularly slams the president and his administration’s controversial policies on his late night talk show. Trump typically claps back on his Truth Social platform, including recently calling for Jimmy Kimmel Live! to be the next show canceled after CBS announced Late Night with Stephen Colbert would be ending next year.
Kimmel also told Silverman that “the door needs to stay open” for people who express regret for voting for Trump, adding that Democrats need to be accepting, rather than condemning them.
“I don’t believe the fuck you, you supported him [mentality],” he said. “If you want to change your mind, that’s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that’s so hard and so rare to do, you are welcome.”
