Kimmel Says Colbert’s Staff Asked Him For Jobs

When Jimmy Kimmel met Stephen Colbert’s staff, they allegedly had one request — and they weren’t shy about it.

Fresh off a six-day suspension, Kimmel visited Colbert’s show to discuss a range of topics, including his now-infamous time off air. On Tuesday, he reflected on that break before shifting to the recent cancellation of “The Late Show.”

Colbert remarked that his team was “the greatest group of people” he has ever worked with.

“Can I tell you something about your staff?” Kimmel asked Colbert. “You have a great staff, and your writers and your show is absolutely fantastic. And I mean that. I’m not just saying that because we’re on TV, and I hope you know that. And I think you’re a great person.”

Following that praise, Kimmel lightheartedly noted: “But I will say, the first 10 members of your staff came right up to me and said, ‘I will leave today if you hire me.’”

Colbert quickly responded, “As well they should.”

The banter continued as Colbert told Kimmel that he’s “available in June” and promised he’d play second-fiddle to security-guard-turned-corresponent Guillermo Rodriguez, who is a regular fixture on Kimmel’s show.

In July, CBS announced the cancellation of “The Late Show,” calling it “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”
