“Gladiator” director Ridley Scott is begging for a thumbs-down.
The filmmaker said Sunday the film industry is “drowning in mediocrity” to the point that he now watches his own movies for comfort amid the “millions” of films made.
“Most of it is shit” due to poor preparation on paper, the four-time Oscar nominee said in an interview at BFI Southbank in London, Yahoo reported.
Asked if he has a comfort movie, the “Blade Runner” helmer said, per Metro UK: “So what I do, it’s a horrible thing, but I’ve started watching my own movies and actually they’re pretty good! And also, they don’t age.”
“I watched ‘Black Hawk [Down]’ the other night and I thought, ‘How in the hell did I manage to do that?’” he continued. “But I think occasionally a good one will happen … it’s like a relief that there’s somebody out there who’s doing a good movie.”
The same goes for older comedy superstars holding forth on the state of their profession.
