The Oscar-winning actor opened up about his emotional age in a rare interview for Esquire, where he was interviewed by director Paul Thomas Anderson. The two collaborated together for the first time in their upcoming film, “One Battle After Another.”
While DiCaprio took Anderson’s questions seriously, the internet had nothing but jokes in return.
Anderson asked DiCaprio, “If you didn’t know how old you are, how old are you right now?” and the “Wolf of Wall Street” actor replied, “Thirty-two.”
Later on in the interview, Anderson shared that Esquire wanted him to ask DiCaprio, “You turned fifty last year. Does it feel like a natural time for reflection?”
DiCaprio responded, mimicking the magazine, “‘You turned emotionally thirty-five last year.’”
Despite the rest of DiCaprio’s answer about age and the next few decades ahead of him, people latched on to the actor’s response because of his well-known interest in dating women in their early 20s.
DiCaprio and his current love interest, 27-year-old model Vittoria Ceretti, have a 23-year age gap.
“Even in his mind, he’s still older than his girlfriends,” writer Elizabeth Gulino quipped in an article for The Cut.
“He has a problematic age gap with himself,” another Twitter user joked.
The rest of the responses were gold.
Other users on X pointed out that it’s common for people to not feel their age.

“Wouldn’t a large or significant part of the population say something similar?” one person wrote.
For what it’s worth, Anderson said his answer to “If you didn’t know how old you are, how old are you right now?” was 27.
