Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Dončić impressed in his final preseason tune-up before the regular season starts, posting 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 117-116 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Dončić played alongside a starting five that will begin the season with LeBron James, who is out with sciatica in his right side. The current unit includes Gabe Vincent, Deandre Ayton, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura.
Of note, Hachimura (18 points) and Vincent (14 points) each hit 4-of-5 three-pointers. Newcomer Marcus Smart added 14 points and four steals off the bench.
The Kings were shorthanded and missed three starters in Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Keegan Murray. New addition Russell Westbrook also didn’t play, nor did key 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk.
That being said, Dončić still looked great and ready to lead the Lakers into the season. Fans were impressed with his efforts.
The Lakers begin their regular season on Wednesday at home against the Golden State Warriors.
