Miranda Cosgrove was a staple on Nickelodeon for kids who grew up during the early 2000s.
While many viewers know her both as the conniving Megan on Drake & Josh and the wholesome Carly on iCarly, she revealed that it was a challenge to switch between the roles.
Cosgrove appeared on the interview series Collider Ladies Night to discuss her acting journey, which began when she was a child star.
When she was a younger kid, she enjoyed portraying mischievous characters. This led her to play Megan, the title characters’ scheming younger sister on Drake & Josh. Cosgrove said it was fun to be “very evil” on the show.
“When I was maybe eight or nine, I was auditioning for more parts that were kind of, like, mean or, like, sassy,” she said.
Cosgrove was given her own show iCarly a few years later. The character of Carly Shay — with her bubbly and sweet personality — is nearly the opposite of Megan. It took the School of Rock star a bit to adjust to the new role.
“I was really nervous when I started iCarly because I was going from playing this evil character that I felt very comfortable playing,” she said.

The Wrong Paris actress remembered that she spoke so timidly while shooting the pilot that the director had to ask her to speak up.
“I definitely got way more confident as the show went on,” she said.
iCarly went on to air for six seasons. It was rebooted in 2021 and ran for three seasons on Paramount+ before getting canceled in 2023. Cosgrove recently shared that an iCarly movie wrapping up the cliffhanger from the revival’s final season was in the works.
