Nebraska football coach Marcus Satterfield discussed tight end Mac Markway’s recovery, as the latter continues to be with the team despite his injury. Markway suffered a season-ending injury, marking the second consecutive year his season ended early due to an ACL injury.
The LSU star has yet to appear in a game for the Huskers after transferring to the program in 2024. The tight end had three catches for 16 yards and a touchdown in his lone season with the Tigers.
Satterfield indicated that Markway has been involved with the program, with the season set to begin in a week. The tight ends coach shared the role Markway is playing in helping young player learn their position.
“He’s around the guys all the time. He’s at practice. He’s on the sidelines. He helps me do personnel. He’s there helping coach the young guys. He’s staying involved. Once we heard what happened, it was a tragedy. We’re here for him and we’re going to get through it and we’re all going to be better for it.”
It remains to be seen how the tight end room will fare with Markway’s absence. The Huskers do have depth at the position, and appeared to be relatively deep in that room. Regardless of anything on the field, it’s certainly a positive development to hear that he is in good spirits after what was a devastating injury.
Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.
