Pete Davidson has been open about the ups and downs of his sobriety journey over the years.
The “Saturday Night Live” star recently revealed during an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast that he is now sober, thanks to a life-altering conversation with a family member.
The “Bupkis” actor said that in the past, he had a tendency to self-sabotage in relationships.
“Anybody that’s actually loved me and cared about me has gotten the worst wrath from me,” he said on Von’s podcast, called “This Past Weekend,” earlier this week.
Eventually, the 31-year-old’s mom, whom he called “the most supportive person in the world,” even had to get real.
“It got to a point where she called me when I was in rehab and she was like, ‘My biggest fear is that I will turn on the news and see that my son has died,’” he said.
“That, fucking ― that killed me,” he said. “So I was like, ’Alright, can’t die until she’s dead at least.”
Since Davidson’s father died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and his mother has already experienced so much heartbreak, he told Von he’d “have to be a fucking sociopath to not get my shit together.”
Now, the comedian is celebrating over a year of sobriety and preparing to welcome his first child with his girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt.
Though Davidson admitted he wished he “had more time” as he’s only been sober for a bit, he said that he’s still “very grateful that it happened now” and with Hewitt.
