Steve Martin remembered his friend and former co-star Diane Keaton in an Instagram post, after news broke that the 79-year-old actor died on Saturday.
In his first post, Martin shared a snippet of a conversation between his longtime collaborator, Martin Short, and Keaton, from an Interview magazine piece. All three starred in the hit film “Father of the Bride” together.
“Don’t know who first posted this, but it sums up our delightful relationship with Diane,” Martin captioned his post.
The post quoted Short asking Keaton, “Who’s sexier, me or Steve Martin?”
Keaton replied, “I mean, you’re both idiots.”
Actor Kimberly William Paisley wrote in response to the post, “I can absolutely hear her saying that,” while actors Olivia Munn and Evan Rachel Wood left hearts.
In another post, Martin shared a poignant playbill showing his long history with Keaton.
“This playbill is from a 1964 college production of Carousel. Diane ‘Hall’ (Keaton) is the lead; I’m a stage hand,” the “Only Murders in the Building” star wrote.
People magazine was the first to report Keaton’s death over the weekend.
“There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness,” a spokesperson told the outlet at the time.
She is survived by her two children, whom she adopted: Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
