If you aren’t looking to flock to one of the 500 Target stores opening at midnight on Oct. 3 to sell copies of Taylor Swift‘s “The Life of a Showgirl” album, you’re in luck: the retailer is also selling exclusive album variants on their website, now available to pre-order.
Target, which has a longstanding relationship with the popstar, is selling three compact disc editions with unique album art (“It’s Frightening,” “It’s Rapturous” and “It’s Beautiful”), each with a fold-out poster, collectible cover and disc art and never-before-seen photos and lyrics. Also available is an exclusive Sweat and Vanilla Perfume CD and vinyl.
These editions carry the same subtitles and cover artwork that Swift previously used for three CDs that were only available in her webstore, and quickly sold out; it’s unclear whether the Target editions have any exclusive packaging elements (apart from losing the trinkets that were advertised with the D2C versions). You can check out a rundown of all of the album’s variants (so far) here.
Swift announced her 12th studio album on Aug. 11, hours after posting a mysterious countdown on her website. It also came just after Travis Kelce revealed that Swift would be appearing as a guest on his “New Heights” podcast, which we now know preceded their engagement.
“The Life of a Showgirl” also comes after a milestone in Swift’s career. In May, she announced that she had purchased her catalog of recordings initially released through Big Machine Records. She retained ownership from Shamrock Capital for a rumored nine-figure sum, revealing that she will be reissuing her old albums that were first sold by Big Machine against her wishes in 2019.
