Waving Palestinian flags and chanting, “free, free Palestine”, tens of thousands of protesters gathered near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin Saturday to call for an end to the Gaza war. Demonstrators called for EU sanctions against Israel, breaking with Germany’s longstanding pro-Israel stance, mainly due to its historical responsibility for the Holocaust.
