“The Daily Show” this week sarcastically agreed to the Pentagon’s new press restrictions in a social media post.
HuffPost refused to sign, as did the major networks and most major conservative outlets, while critics accused the War, er, Defense Department of constricting press freedom.
“The Daily Show” joined the likes of OAN in caving to Hegseth’s demands ― but in the name of mockery.
“After serious consideration, The Daily Show has agreed to the Pentagon’s new demands regarding press access,” the program wrote Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter.
“We were going to refuse, but everyone else rejected it so hard that it honestly made us feel kinda bad for Pete Hegseth,” the statement continued. “The poor guy couldn’t even get Fox News to sign on, and he WORKED for them a few months ago. Even Newsmax refused! Brutal. So we’re gonna join in, just so One America isn’t the only signature on this thing. It’s all just too humiliating.”
The Pentagon press corps has shrunk massively after the edict.
“The Daily Show” is not really a member of the regular Pentagon press pool — but enjoy your compromised access anyway, you hilariously spineless rogues!
