The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with safety Quandre Diggs, one of the most prominent veterans on a defense that’s gone through a purge of talent in recent weeks.
Diggs, 32, is in his second stint with the Titans. He’s started four games this year and logged 30 tackles. Notably, Diggs is the cousin of Titans quarterback Cam Ward; their grandmothers are sisters. A three-time Pro Bowl safety from his time in Seattle, Diggs will be subject to waivers since the Titans cut him after the NFL trade deadline.
Without Diggs, the Titans safety room consists of Xavier Woods, Amani Hooker, rookie Kevin Winston Jr., Kendell Brooks and recent waiver add Jerrick Reed II.
In recent weeks, the Titans have made several moves to go away from veteran contributors on defense. Those moves have included trades that sent cornerback Roger McCreary and outside linebacker Dre’Mont Jones to Los Angeles and Baltimore in exchange for mid-round draft picks. The Titans have also been playing without injured veterans on defense in defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
Winston, the Titans’ third-round draft pick in 2025, was inactive for the first month of the season as he rehabbed from an ACL injury previously sustained in college, but he’s ramping back up to full speed and his usage has seen a significant uptick in recent weeks. Combine that with the Reed addition and the Titans have the resources to go younger at safety and rotate the players in multiple ways. This is especially valuable after Sneed’s injury and the McCreary and Jarvis Brownlee Jr., trades left the Titans thin at cornerback.
The Titans (1-8) are off this week. They return to action at home for a divisional contest against the Houston Texans on Nov. 16.
