The battle for the true AL East titan starts here? The Toronto Blue Jays were the deserving AL East champ in the regular season and it was their first division title since 2015. They had the same 94-68 record as the Yankees — tied for the best record in the AL — but won the division based on winning the season series, eight games to five.
With that tiebreaker came the bye. The Jays rested up this past week while the Yankees had to battle the Red Sox in a tough three-game series in the Bronx. They prevailed, though, and we get to see a Yankees-Blue Jays playoff series. If that sounds rare to you, it is. In fact, this is the first-ever playoff meeting between the two AL East foes.
Game 1 was more tense than the final 10-1 score would lead you to believe, but the Blue Jays took that rest and blew the Yankees away Saturday. Game 2 was much of the same Sunday as Toronto sent the series to New York with a 13-7 win. Game 3 seemed like it was going to be the next in a line of blowouts until Aaron Judge tied the game with a three-run home run and the Yankees offense took it from there, staving off elimination for at least one more game.

Game 4 storylines
Yankees: The Yankees have to be riding high after a huge win Tuesday, but their already shaky bullpen was stretched to its limits. Will it snap? Cam Schlittler looked phenomenal in his Wild Card Series start but that’s such a big ask from a rookie.
Blue Jays: The Blue Jays, meanwhile, still just need to win one more game and their offense still looks great. The defense gave away some runs Tuesday and yeah, sure, Aaron Judge hit a home run. It happens.
Game 4 prediction
The Blue Jays have had success against Cam Schlittler so far this season, so it’s possible this is another slugfest. The vibes feel pretty good for the Yankees here at home after the huge comeback, so we’ll ride the wave before the Blue Jays drop the hammer in Game 5. Yankees win this one, only delaying elimination a few days. — Matt Snyder
