- Long Story Short tells the time-hopping story of a middle-class Jewish family, the Schwoopers.
- It comes from Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, and features the voices of Ben Feldman, Lisa Edelstein, and Paul Reiser.
- The animated comedy hits Netflix on Aug. 22.
Raphael Bob-Waksberg turned adult animation on its head with the tragicomic Bojack Horseman, and now he’s back with a new Netflix series, Long Story Short.
The animated sitcom centers on the trials and tribulations of a middle-class Jewish family, the Schwoopers, across many years. The series thrums with time jumps, heartbreak, joy, and family dinners that somehow always end in arguments.
Netflix clearly believes in Bob-Waksberg’s vision, as the streamer has already renewed Long Story Short for a second season. That’s right, more Schwooper shenanigans are on the way.

You probably know Ben Feldman as Jonah on Superstore (2015–2021), but he also had a memorable, Emmy-nominated run on Mad Men (2012–2014) and showed up quite regularly on Silicon Valley (2014–2019).
More recently, he’s been doing voice work on series like Monsters at Work (2021–present) and Common Side Effects (2025–present), and also popped up as Lark on Mayfair Witches (2025).
Feldman voices Avi Schwooper, the level-headed eldest child of the Schwooper clan.
At the red carpet premiere, Feldman revealed he “deeply” resonates with the character and even admitted to some light sabotage during the audition process. “I’m in love with this guy. This is the guy that I want,” he said, saying he “phoned in” his auditions for other characters. “I instantly identified with Avi and then I saw him and that sealed the deal. But, very much it was a very easy part to play for me I would say.”
Abbi Jacobson as Shira Schwooper

Multi-hyphenate Abbi Jacobson can do it all, though you likely know her best for co-creating and co-starring on the hit comedy Broad City (2014–2019). She then went on to co-create and headline the short-lived Prime Video series A League of Their Own (2022).
Like many of her Long Story Short castmates, Jacobson has an extensive voice acting catalog. She can be heard on BoJack Horseman (2016–2018), Disenchantment (2018–2023), and The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021).
She’s also worked with fellow Long Story Short actor Dave Franco more than once, sharing the screen with him in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), and 6 Balloons (2018).
Jacobson lends her voice to Shira Schwooper, the tomboyish middle child and only daughter.
Max Greenfield as Yoshi Schwooper

Max Greenfield is fondly remembered as Schmidt on New Girl (2011–2018), a role that earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, but you may also remember him for his turn as Leo D’Amato on Veronica Mars (2005–2007), its 2014 movie, and its 2019 revival season.
He’s no stranger to voice work, either, having played Roger in Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) and characters on Bob’s Burgers (2013–2020), Robot Chicken (2014), and BoJack Horseman (2019).
He can next be seen in the comedy Let’s Have Kids! and the Adam Sandler-produced teen musical Don’t Say Good Luck.
Greenfield plays Yoshi Schwooper, the goofy youngest child of the family.
Like Feldman, Greenfield had his sights set on a specific role. At the premiere, Bob-Waksberg shared that while Greenfield was asked to read for multiple parts, his audition tape began with: “Hello, I’m Max. I’m reading for a bunch but this is me as Yoshi which is obviously the part I should be playing. It would be silly if someone else played the role.”
Lisa Edelstein as Naomi Schwartz

Lisa Edelstein rose to fame as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on House (2004–2011), but you’ll also recognize her from Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (2014–2018) — on which she also produced, wrote, and directed — and Netflix’s The Kominsky Method (2018–2021).
Edelstein’s had a long-running career in voice acting, with gigs on series such as American Dad (2007–2011) and The Legend of Korra (2013–2014) and a long spell voicing supervillain Mercy Graves in the DC Animated Universe (1995–2005).
On Long Story Short, Edelstein voices Naomi Schwartz, the impossible-to-ignore matriarch of the family.

Franco also earned an Emmy nomination for playing a fictionalized version of himself on the Apple TV+ series The Studio (2025–present).
Next, Franco stars in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You and reprises his role as Jack Wilder in the anticipated Now You See Me threequel, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Both are slated to hit theaters in late 2025.
