COPS have arrested a 23-year-old man after a woman reported she had been raped and assaulted with a knife in a horror attack.
The incident is reported to have taken place at around 10:45pm on Monday near Villa Road Recreation Ground in Essex.
The woman told police that she had been approached by a man who then raped her, before assaulting her with a knife as she fled.
She is currently being treated for injuries which are not life-threatening.
Soon after the attack, a thorough police search resulted in the arrest of a young man.
The man from Benfleet remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of rape and assault.
